Framers..... Not Farmers

Every time I type out "framers" I always think I am miss spelling farmers. Guess I have farmers on the brain!!

The framers started yesterday, and got all the markings and lines drawn on the pad. They also started making "headers" and some other things.  I talk like I know what these things are, but I don't. :)

Today, they came and actually started standing the boards up!! I've been waiting for this day since January.  The day it actually starts looking like a house!! Yeah.

Our Biggest Week Yet!

We had a great week; if you consider making progress, great!!

On Tuesday, the electricity guys FINALLY came after 12 weeks of waiting!  They put poles in at the water well, and near our house!

When I saw all the big trucks coming, I was outside by myself, and I started jumping up and down hollering!! Hope nobody saw me! :)

And concrete came and poured the slab for the foundation on Thursday! There is a lot more  steps that goes into the foundation than I ever realized. But, happy to have it done, and I'm sure the concrete crew is happy not to come back for a while!!

The crew actually got to our house at 4AM!! That's crazy!

Funny story. Jason is a light sleeper, and heard big trucks drive by our house at 4, but he knew if he got up to go and look, he wouldn't be able to go back to sleep.  Then at 5:15, Jason's mom called to tell us there was people at the house. So, he got up and checked it out, and didn't go back to sleep.

They try to get there early because supposedly working in the really hot weather with concrete is difficult.  Those guys worked a really long day, but everything got finished in one day!

The kids enjoyed the nice, smooth, ride!!

This sectioned off concrete part is our front porch where we'll sit and grow old together, and be nosey watching everybody drive by because that's what old people do.

This sectioned off concrete part is our back porch where will stay young forever, and party like it's 1999!! J/K, but hoping to enjoy many good nights together watching our kids play with our friends kids.

Busy, but no Productivity

Jason and I have been out and about lately.  It's been great having the nice big rain, which means Jason comes with me to these places!! :) In fact, we've been a lot of places in the past week:

Morrison Supply
Anderson Tile
Knobs and More
Kiser Carpet
Angelo Stone
Kiser Carpet
Angelo Plumbing
Kuntz Appliance
Lowes
Sears

All in the past week, and really nothing is accomplished.  I've decided that we know what we want, and we are very picky. Or maybe it's just me!! :)  But Jason wants the best deal around. :)

And sometimes I wonder why I am picking out knobs and fans and floors, when we have no concrete poured for the foundation!!

I just do what I'm told!!

MOVEMENT!!

After nearly 2 months since the pad has been done, there is finally lots of movement going on this week at the house!!

The concrete crew showed up on Tuesday, and will finish the trenching and setting the forms, hopefully tomorrow.  The plumber is set to come early next week, like Monday.

Look at all those vehicles!! Makes me happy!!

Checking out the progress! I never knew what trenching or setting forms was, but I think it's when they make a big trench where the walls will be.  Pretty obvious!!

Final Brick Decision

Last week Jason and I made a flying fast trip to Dallas to check out some houses with a brick I was interested in through a company in Dallas called Metro Brick.

We left at 7am and got back at 7pm!  We looked at about 10 or 11 houses will the 2 options of brick I liked in the North Dallas area.

Both bricks are a custom blend by that company meaning, they use 50% of used/antique brick and 50% of new/manufactured brick.  When they lay the brick, they do a heavy smear of mortar over the bricks, making them look a little more antique. I like that A LOT, which is probably why I like their brick.

They have 2 choices: a red blend and a buff blend.  I have to say I LOVED the red blend, but I have always been scared of red brick. But, when you put the mortar over it, it doesn't look as red, but Jason doesn't care, but he did say he didn't like as heavy mortar spread over.

On the way home, we both just went back and forth between the two. We have decided to use the buff blend of bricks.  It looks like this.

The reason we are going with Buff with mortar smeared over is because I like this brick with rock combination in the photo below.

This is the Buff Blend on a house. What do you think? Does it look like the picture above?? Does it look like something I will like forever? I hope so!! :)

Our Kind of Homestead

With a Porta-Potty!!

The kids think this is hilarious!! A bathroom in the middle of our field!!

It seems that all the crews are behind schedule except for the "delivering porta-potty's crew"!! They were early!! :)

The pad is done for a couple weeks now.

The plan from here:

Crew to Lay forms for the concrete (supposed to been here this week; still waiting)

Plumbing Crew

Crew to Lay Re-Bar

Crew to actually pour the concrete

Hoping, and wishing, and praying it all gets done quickly.
